Website Promotion: Spam - Avoid at all costs

Spam should be the enemy of all webmasters however it is still a concern online and is common among web marketers if they wish to chose these tactics. If you have ever got an unwanted e-mail in your junk folder then you know and have experienced spam.

 

Basically if you asked for that e-mail to be there, then it's acceptable and NOT spam.

 

Webmasters and marketers have been abusing the various methods of spam since the internet came out even. E-mail spam is a main subject for spammers. Large e-mails lists are compiled and then sent out hugely with nothing but commercial ads in them.

Another form of spam is instant messaging, chat room, and forum spam. Spambots which is software that automatically joins chat rooms and floods them with advertisements to what ever they chose. For forums, spammers will enter and flood them with irrelevant topics and unwanted ad's. Signatures in forums however is acceptable, you just have to check with the websites terms.

Blogs also have been a target for spammers. The commenting system allows it for people to leave there url's inside the comment leading to an unwanted message there.

When trying to promote your site, you should never use spamming techniques. If you are concerned with your search engine rank, spamming your url's into message boards and other unwanted spots only will drag your rank down.
